Bismihi Ta`ala
*Tolerance to the T.*
We are born different, with different colours, different natural abilities, different languages, different taste for food or spices, different potentials and also different health strengths and standards.Allah Ta`ala has establish all these differences so that we make sabr on each other`s differences. By tolerating and making sabr on each other`s differences, we earn sawaab.
Allah Ta`ala says: ‘’And We have made some of you a test for some others. Would you observe patience?’’ (25:20)
Our plead is that ‘’O Allah! Don`t make us under the test of oppression rule of Kafirs.’’
But if we happen to be under their oppression, then make Sabr. On that Sabr Allah Ta`ala will make Salaam to us and will give us comfort and rewards(13:24) ;
Reported that some people came to Madinah Munawarah and they became sick. Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam made them stay outside Madinah drinking milk of camels until they would become healthy.(Muslim)
Never did Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam obliged them to stay in Madinah. But rather he would act with leniency and tolerance according to their comforts. One of the beauty of the our elders of Ulamas deoband is that they would consider the preference of others and act accordingly. For example, Mufti Afzal Hussein Ilyas ra would not appreciate khidmats of pressing of feet, etc. So when he visited Qari Siddiq Bandwi ra and the ulamas were pressing Qari saab’s feet, Qari saab ra immediately ordered them to stop in respect of his old friend/student Mufti Afzal Hussein Ilyas ra.
We find that in Sunnah also
Reported in Tabrani that Rasouloullah Swalallahou Alaihi Wasallam was sitting in a homely manner uncareful of his cloth settings. Hazrat Abu Bakr came and he welcomed Abu Bakr ra with same cloth settings. Hazrat Umar ra came and he welcomed him in the same state. But when Hazrat Uthman ra asked permission to enter, Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam immediately put his clothes properly on him. When Harzat Aisha ra asked the reason for Him to do so for Uthman ra, then he said: ‘’Uthman is a man full of haya and like to cover his body properly. Even the angels become shy in front of him.’’In this hadith, Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam took care to present himself for someone else. So when going into public, praying salaah in congregation, take the care of respecting your fellow musallis standing by you. Because their sanitary precautionary standards may differ from yours. So set it to safe mode so that you become the best person.
Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam said: ‘’The best amongst you is the one who is softer in shoulder (to his neighbour musalli) during salaah.’’(Abu Dawood)
The sunnah teaches softness to your fellow musalli, your neighbour and anyone you encounter. Tolerance and tolerance. Because simply we are different in standards.
Reported in Muatta Malik and Baihaqi that Hazrat Uthman ra had masked his face during Ihraam on a hot/dusty day.
If you want to find the true standard of deen, then look at the life of Sahabahs. Because no one can excel them in standards.Note that it is not permissible to cover face during Ihraam. But Hazrat Uthman ra did so due to circumstance of heat and dust. If one is obliged by some circumstances to cover face during Ihraam for less than 12 hours then Sadaqah should be given. But 12 hours or more, then a sheep in Mina should be slaughtered.
Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam said: ‘’Those who would live(after me) will see lots of divergences. So hold onto my sunnah and the sunnah of my rightly guided Khalifs. Hold firmly and stubbornly onto that such that lock your premolar teeth on these sunnahs.’’(Sahih Ibn Hibaan)
Rasouloullah Swalallahou Alaihi Wasallam said: ‘’Make easy on people. Don`t make it difficult on them. Give them glad tidings and don`t push them away(by warnings and curses).’’(Bukhari)
