Bismihi Ta’ala *THE GIFTS OF MI’RAAJ(Part 2).* *THE PEAK OF MI’RAAJ.* People talk about man’s walk on the moon some 40 years ago, but we like to recall that, fourteen centuries ago, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) journeyed though the (incalculable) dimensions of seven heavens to visit Paradise and Hell and finally to reach the heights that none before had crossed. He spoke to Allah Ta’ala directly and without an interpreter. A space journey of several thousand years accomplished in less than one night! *The spirit of mi’raaj*. Me’iraaj is a miracle and is a benchmark for a Muslim’s belief in Allah (God). That Allah (God) is capable of accomplishing anything of any moment irrespective of means and circumstances. He has absolute power. It is noteworthy that the Me’iiraaj took place in a part of one night. In fact, the spirit of Me’iraaj is, above all, to make us understand that Allah Ta’ala is able to accomplish the impossible. What human intellect considers as difficult and impossible is, for Allah Ta’ala, only very easy and light (simple). In this particular case, He has extended time to enable the Prophet (saw) to pay a visit to the Prophets (as) and journey through the heavens in a few minutes. Allah’s power is absolute and is not subject to anything, not even to the parameters of time. He juggles easily with time and distance according to His will. *The Mi’raaj.* In fact, the first phases of Me’iraaj was to prepare the heart of the holy prophet (saw) for that ascent which was to single him out from the other prophets (as). To cross the dimensions of space and go beyond the galaxies and reach the dimensions of the world beyond required a preparation for the body and soul. So, on that night, angel Jibraeel (as) came to the prophet of Allah (saw) and opened his chest and practiced heart surgery. During that operation, Zamzam water was used to fortify the heart. That water is the most sacred one and even the prophet’s soul benefited from it. And then tonics of faith and wisdom were infected into him. As soon as he was ready, he was made to ride the Buraaq, a white animal of middle height between a mule and an ass. That animal, not of terrestrial origin, had a breathtaking speed. It could reach the horizon in just one stride! Reaching Jerusalem in no time, the Prophet of Allah (saw) performed swalah in Al Aqsa masjid. This brings the sunnah to travel and read salaah in Baitul Muqadas. We should revive this sunnah of visiting Masjidul Aqsa and praying there to solve the palestinian issues. The last 2 ayahs of sourah Baqarah(Sourah 2: Verse 285, 286) 3. And forgiveness to those very sinful ummati that have not done shirk(that have not associated with Allah Ta`ala). Swalah is such a gift of Me’iraaj received following the divine communion between the Prophet (saw) and his Creator. It is a gift which is worthy of that honour, since it is an ideal way of accomplishing divine satisfaction. Like Me’iraaj, swalah is the means whereby one is propelled upward to attain the nearness of Allah. It is the communion between Allah and His slave. May Allah grant us the will to perform our five daily swalah regularly, which symbolize our ultimate divine communion. Ameen Mufti Mackoojee |
