THE FOOTSTEPS OF BILAAL RA-PART 3.Allah Ta`ala cares for the footsteps that walk towards Him and towards His deen. Every step walked is recorded and we will see the reward either in this world or in the hereafter. The first footstep outside the house towards the Masjid and you are welcomed by a great hug from Allah Ta`ala`s as a great welcome note-Ahmad/Ibn Khuzeimah:مسند أحمد ط الرسالة – ()حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: ” لَا يُوطِنُ رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلصَّلَاةِ وَالذِّكْرِ، إِلَّا تَبَشْبَشَ اللهُ بِهِ حِينَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ، كَمَا يَتَبَشْبَشُ أَهْلُ الْغَائِبِ بِغَائِبِهِمْ إِذَا قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِمْ
Every footstep towards the Masjid is rewarded. Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam told Bani Salmah not to move close to the Masjid because their footsteps to the Masjid are recorded as reward(Sahih Muslim):صحيح مسلم – )عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ خَلَتْ الْبِقَاعُ حَوْلَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَأَرَادَ بَنُو سَلِمَةَ أَنْ يَنْتَقِلُوا إِلَى قُرْبِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ إِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكُمْ تُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَنْتَقِلُوا قُرْبَ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ أَرَدْنَا ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ يَا بَنِي سَلِمَةَ دِيَارَكُمْ تُكْتَبْ آثَارُكُمْ دِيَارَكُمْ تُكْتَبْ آثَارُكُمْ.
Likewise, Hazrat Abu Bakr r.a. walked with jamaats going in the path of Allah intending to get the same reward of Fi Sabilillah(Ibn Abi Shaibah):مصنف ابن أبي شيبة – )حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ إسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ ، أَوْ غَيْرِهِ يَحْسَبُ الشَّكُّ مِنْهُ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ جَيْشًا إلَى الشَّامِ فَخَرَجَ يُشَيِّعُهُمْ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا : يَا خَلِيفَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ، لَوْ رَكِبَتْ ، قَالَ : إني أَحْتَسِبُ خُطَايَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ
This deen is so easy that every foot step count in the scale of reward(Muslim).صحيح مسلم – )كُتِبَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ خُطْوَةٍ تَخْطُوهَا أَجْرٌ
So Hazrat Bilaal r.a. accepted Islam in Makkah Mukarramah on the hands of Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam. He was a slave of some chiefs of Makkah who were defiant open enemies of Islam. He expressed his Islam openly and hence Abu Bakr r.a. and Bilaal r.a. became the two symbolic muslims stepping in Makkah Mukarramah:صحيح مسلم – ()قَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبَسَةَ السُّلَمِيُّكُنْتُ وَأَنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَظُنُّ أَنَّ النَّاسَ عَلَى ضَلَالَةٍ وَأَنَّهُمْ لَيْسُوا عَلَى شَيْءٍ وَهُمْ يَعْبُدُونَ الْأَوْثَانَ فَسَمِعْتُ بِرَجُلٍ بِمَكَّةَ يُخْبِرُ أَخْبَارًا فَقَعَدْتُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِي فَقَدِمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُسْتَخْفِيًا جُرَءَاءُ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمُهُ فَتَلَطَّفْتُ حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ بِمَكَّةَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا أَنْتَ قَالَ أَنَا نَبِيٌّ فَقُلْتُ وَمَا نَبِيٌّ قَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي اللَّهُ فَقُلْتُ وَبِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ أَرْسَلَكَ قَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي بِصِلَةِ الْأَرْحَامِ وَكَسْرِ الْأَوْثَانِ وَأَنْ يُوَحَّدَ اللَّهُ لَا يُشْرَكُ بِهِ شَيْءٌ قُلْتُ لَهُ فَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى هَذَا قَالَ حُرٌّ وَعَبْدٌ قَالَ وَمَعَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَبِلَالٌ مِمَّنْ آمَنَ بِهِ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي مُتَّبِعُكَ
Hazrat Amr bin Abassah r.a. report that in early days of Makkah, he asked Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam: ‘’Who is with you on this deen?’’ Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam answered: ‘’A freeman and a slave: Abu Bakr and Bilaal r.a.’’(Sahih Muslim)Abu Bakr and Bilaal r.a. And who would have thought that time that these footsteps with Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam would be compensated that the only imaam requested by Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam on His demise would be Abu Bakr r.a. And Bilaal announcing the Azaan and Iqaamah that sad Zohr on Monday 12th Rabi`ul Awal. You see, steps done with sincerity during trial times in the path of deen will be rewarded fully either in this world or in the Aakhirah. In any case, the pioneers of deen have the honour of being the ones that has helped the stem cell of the deen of Allah and hence rewarded with entrance early in Jannah although their ambitions were not fulfilled(Sahih Ibn Hibaan) صحيح ابن حبان – (أخبرنا أبو يعلى ، قال : حدثنا هارون بن معروف ، قال : حدثنا المقرئ ، قال : حدثنا سعيد بن أبي أيوب ، قال : حدثني معروف بن سويد الجذامي ، عن أبي عشانة المعافري ، عن عبد الله بن عمرو ، عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، أنه قال : « هل تدرون من أول من يدخل الجنة من خلق الله ؟ » قالوا : الله ورسوله أعلم ، قال : « أول من يدخل الجنة من خلق الله الفقراء المهاجرون الذين يسد بهم الثغور (1) ، وتتقى بهم المكاره ، ويموت أحدهم ، وحاجته في صدره لا يستطيع لها قضاء ، فيقول الله لمن يشاء من ملائكته : إيتوهم فحيوهم ، فيقول الملائكة : ربنا نحن سكان سماواتك ، وخيرتك من خلقك أفتأمرنا أن نأتي هؤلاء ، فنسلم عليهم ، قال : إنهم كانوا عبادا يعبدوني لا يشركون بي شيئا ، وتسد بهم الثغور ، وتتقى بهم المكاره ، ويموت أحدهم ، وحاجته في صدره لا يستطيع لها قضاء ، قال : فتأتيهم الملائكة عند ذلك ، فيدخلون عليهم من كل باب : ( سلام عليكم بما صبرتم فنعم عقبى الدار
We should be grateful to those who were first pushing the deen forward, although today they have gone weak and old. Because they were barriers of deen at a time when you were not there.وَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ [الحشر : 10]O Allah ! Forgive us and also forgive those who preceded us in Imaan and don`t put enmity in our hearts for believers…(59: 10)That`s what differenciate between us and Shi`as. They keep grudge against the pioneers Abu Bakr r.a. and Umar r.a. And we salute and honour Abu Bakr and Umar r.a. right after Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam. And we respect and love the two sons in laws of the prophet: Uthman and Ali r.a. So hazrat Bilaal r.a. embraced Islam and he was punished by his masters. Reported in hayatus Sahabah that the Qureish used to put a rope around his neck and send trod him over the streets of Makkah, send the vile youngsters behind him hitting him and hurting him, they used to put an iron armour over his body and leave him in the courching sun of Makkah, they used to take turns to hit him…. and yet hazrat Bilaal r.a. used to utter loudly during these trials: ‘’Ahad! Ahad ! God is One! God is One!’’ Hearing this, they became more furious and they hurt him more unhumanly. حياة الصحابة – الكاندهلوي – ()تحمل بلال بن رباح المؤذن رضي الله عنه الشدائد من أظهر إسلامه أولاً معه عليه السلام—أخرج الإِمام أحمد،ابن ماجه عن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه قال: أول من أظهر الإِسلام سبعة: رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وأبو بكر، وعمَّار وأمه سُميَّة، وصهيب، وبلال؛ والمقداد، رضي الله عنهم. فأما رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فمنعه الله بعمِّه. وأما أبو بكر فمنعه الله بقومه. وأما سائرهم فأخذهم المشركون فألبسوهم أدْرُع الحديد وصهروهم في الشمس، فما منهم من أحد إلا وقد آتاهم على ما أرادوا إلا بلالاً، فإنه هانت عليه نفسه في الله. وهان على قومه، فأخذوه فأعطَوه الولدان، فجعلوا يطوفون به في شِعاب مكة، وهو يقول: أحد، أحد ــــ كذا في البداية . وأخرجه أيضاً الحاكم وقال: صحيح الإِسناد ولم يخرِّجاه. وقال الذهبي: صحيح، وأخرجه أبو نُعيم في الحلية ، وابن أبي شيبة كما في الكنز ، وابن عبد البَرّ في الإستيعاب من حديث بن مسعود بمثله.وأخرجه أبو نُعيم أيضاً في الحلية من حديث مجاهد، وفي حديثه: وأما الآخرون فألبسوهم أدراع الحديد ثم صهروهم في الشمس، فبلغ منهم الجَهد ما شاء الله أن يبلغ من حر الحديد والشمس. فلما كان من العشي أتاهم أبو جهل ــــ ومعه حربته، فجعل يشتمهم ويوبخهم. وقال ابن عبد البر في حديث مجاهد ــــ وزاد في خبر بلال ــــ: أنهم كانوا يطوفون به والحبل في عنقه بين أخشبي مكة. وأخرجه ابن سعد عن مجاهد بنحوه.وأخرج الزبير بن بكار عن عُروة بن الزبير رضي الله عنهما قال: كان بلال لجارية من بني جُمَح، وكانوا يعذبونه برَمْضاء مكة، يلصقون ظهره بالرمضاء لكي يشرك، فقول: أُحد أُحد، فيمر به وَرَقَة ــــ وهو على تلك الحال ــــ فيقول: أُحد، أُحد، يا بلال. والله، لئن قتلتموه لأتخذنَّه حناناً، وهذا مرسل جيد. كذا في الإِصابة .وذكر أبو نُعيم في الحِلْية عن ابن إسحاق: كان أمية يخرجه إذا حميت الظهيرة فيطرحه على ظهره في بطحاء مكة؛ ثم يأمر بالصخرة العظيمة فتوضع على صدره، ثم يقول له: لا تزال هكذا حتى تموت أو تكفر بمحمد، وتعبد اللات والعزّى. فيقول: ــــ وهو في ذلك البلاء ــــ أُحد، أُحد.
Hazrat Bilaal r.a. slept one these nights in Makkah tired of being pulled with a rope in the streets of Makkah on the name of deen. His footsteps was painful today. But in the court of Allah, this will not be forgotten. Because He is Allah, above all heights. He registers the minutest movement. Nothing escape Him. He is the one who hold the sun to rise tomorrow same time as last year. And in His Qur-aan, He has decreed that He will give a proper return to every single action. A return that correspond to the sacrifice done.جَزَاءً وِفَاقًا[النبأ : 26]‘’A return commensurate according to deed accomplished.’’(Naba:26) When Hazrat Asia a.s., the wife of Pharaoh sacrificed her throne for the sake of deen, then Allah Ta`ala has returned her with an eternal throne being the queen and wife of Rasouloullah Swalallahou Alaihi Wasallam in Jannah. No jannah above that jannah. No honour above that honour.Dishonour over here with honour over there.When Hazrat Bilaal r.a. uttered the words ‘’Ahad! Ahad!’’ in the streets of Makkah, then the corresponding reward will be that he will be the one who call the greatness of Allah as the official muezzin of Islam. And yet, his footsteps will be so rewarded that he used to remind himself in humility: ‘’I was just a slave yesterday.’’(Tabqaat ibn Sa`d) Islam reward anyone, whether white or black, yellow or brown. No discrimination in the arena of the Creator.
قال: أخبرت عن أبي اليمان الحمصي عن جرير بن عثمان عن عبد الرحمن بن ميسرة عن بن مراهن قال: كان أناس يأتون بلالا فيذكرون فضله وما قسم الله له من الخير فكان يقول: إنما أنا حبشي كنت بالأمس عبدا
The greatest honour is for the prophets. And yet the greatest trials and difficulties befell them. They went through lots of fear and hardship. Then the greatest trial on deen befall those close to the prophets(Tirmizi):
سنن الترمذي -عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَشَدُّ بَلَاءً قَالَ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ ثُمَّ الْأَمْثَلُ فَالْأَمْثَلُ فَيُبْتَلَى الرَّجُلُ عَلَى حَسَبِ دِينِهِ فَإِنْ كَانَ دِينُهُ صُلْبًا اشْتَدَّ بَلَاؤُهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فِي دِينِهِ رِقَّةٌ ابْتُلِيَ عَلَى حَسَبِ دِينِهِ فَمَا يَبْرَحُ الْبَلَاءُ بِالْعَبْدِ حَتَّى يَتْرُكَهُ يَمْشِي عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مَا عَلَيْهِ خَطِيئَةٌ
