I have a total of Rs15000 (cash in hand and at bank). I dont have any other money but my wife has 97 grams of gold which is in her possession for more than 1 year. Is zakaat compulsory on me?

Zakaat is not compulsory on you, but is definitely compulsory on your wife. She needs to evaluate the actual price of the jewelry and then pay the zakaat. She may calculate the sum of zakaat on the web.
