Bismihi Ta`ala

*NIGHTS THAT MADE COLOURFUL DAYS.* 

*Once Tufeil Ibn Amr Dowsi r.a. came to Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam requesting him to curse his tribe because they just refused his first Da`wat of Islam that he did to them. The beloved prophet Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam refused and made the contrary to his request, he asked Du`as for them: ‘’O Allah! Guide the tribe of Dows and bring them to us.’’(Bukhari)*

عن الأعرج عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنهقدم الطفيل بن عمرو على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال يا رسول الله إن دوسا قد عصت وأبت فادع الله عليها فظن الناس أنه يدعو عليهم فقال اللهم اهد دوسا وأت بهم بخاري

The beloved prophet Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam did curse some bitter and hardened Mushriks in Makkah.(Bukhari) But that was after years of continuous soft Da`wat done towards them. So cursing of a nation should not be done unless proper individual Da`wat accomplished towards them. 

قال فجعلوا يضحكون ويحيل بعضهم على بعض ورسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ساجد لا يرفع رأسه حتى جاءته فاطمة فطرحت عن ظهره فرفع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم رأسه ثم قال اللهم عليك بقريش ثلاث مرات فشق عليهم إذ دعا عليهم قال وكانوا يرون أن الدعوة في ذلك البلد مستجابة ثم سمى اللهم عليك بأبي جهل وعليك بعتبة بن ربيعة وشيبة بن ربيعة والوليد بن عتبة وأمية بن خلف وعقبة بن أبي معيط وعد السابع فلم يحفظ قال فوالذي نفسي بيده لقد رأيت الذين عد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صرعى في القليب قليب بدر بخاري

In fact, when Hazrat Moossa a.s. and Haroon a.s. cursed Pharaoh, then Allah Ta`ala requested that they should continue their work of Da`wat until then. Hazrat Bhai Abdul Wahab sahab d.b. said that the end effect of Da`wat will bring the supremacy of Islam over falsehood. Duas will be accepted against bitter enemies that did not accept Islam and also Allah Ta`ala would change the decor of the world in favour of muslims.

وَقَالَ مُوسَى رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ آتَيْتَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَأَهُ زِينَةً وَأَمْوَالًا فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا رَبَّنَا لِيُضِلُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِكَ رَبَّنَا اطْمِسْ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَاشْدُدْ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُوا حَتَّى يَرَوُا الْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَقَالَ قَدْ أُجِيبَتْ دَعْوَتُكُمَا فَاسْتَقِيمَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعَانِّ سَبِيلَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ 

So it is not sunnah to curse unless proper Da`wat done towards a people. So we should make Da`wat continuously to non muslims and first make du`as for their guidance.I mention a few anecdotes of sunnah whereby Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam and his sahabahs made duas of Hidayat for their enemies:Hazrat Umar r.a. was an enemy of Islam when Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam made du`a for his guidance(Hayatus Sahabah). In fact he mentioned, in his duas,  the names of those potential enemies that would benefit Islam:

فقال عمر: دلُّوني على محمد. فلما سمع خبّاب قول عمر خرج من البيت فقال: أبشر يا عمر، فإني أرجو أن تكون دعوة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لك ليلة الخميس: «اللَّهمَّ أعز الإِسلام بعمر بن الخطاب أو بعمرو بن هشام». حياة الصحابة

Hazrat Bilaal r.a. was pitilessly persecuted in Makkah by the non muslim Qureishs. And yet, in Madinah Munawwarah, at the peak of du`a acceptance of sehri time, he did not miss one night but he would make the following du`a: ‘’O Allah, I praise you and I ask your help to make the Qureish the helpers of your deen.’’(Abu Dawood)

عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ قَالَتْكَانَ بَيْتِي مِنْ أَطْوَلِ بَيْتٍ حَوْلَ الْمَسْجِدِ وَكَانَ بِلَالٌ يُؤَذِّنُ عَلَيْهِ الْفَجْرَ فَيَأْتِي بِسَحَرٍ فَيَجْلِسُ عَلَى الْبَيْتِ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى الْفَجْرِ فَإِذَا رَآهُ تَمَطَّى ثُمَّ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَحْمَدُكَ وَأَسْتَعِينُكَ عَلَى قُرَيْشٍ أَنْ يُقِيمُوا دِينَكَ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ يُؤَذِّنُ قَالَتْ وَاللَّهِ مَا عَلِمْتُهُ كَانَ تَرَكَهَا لَيْلَةً وَاحِدَةً تَعْنِي هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَاتِ ابو داود

In fact, Islam does not beg for anything. But Islam seek for human potentials to accept its truth. Know that most potentials are in Qureishs tribe. So prophets would spend days and nights in pursue of making a human potential accept Islam. The nights of Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam would supplicate Allah Ta`ala to make enemies like Umar, Khalid bin Walid, Abu Sufyan, etc r.a. accept the truth of Islam. Letters of Da`wah were written on their names addressing them personally towards Islam.(Hayatus Sahabah)All this to tell you that we should not hasten to curse a people before proper Da`wat done. Rather cry for them at night supplicating Allah for their guidance and also give da`wah individually and collectively.

The nights of Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam turned his days colourful. Long supplications at night turned his enemies into allies. The Sahabahs took the same recipe to colour Islam in the world. Remember that Allah Ta`ala will not destroy falsehood unless proper Da`wat done. The whole Qur-an is full of stories of prophets doing Da`wat for years until the help of Allah comes in the end result.Today also, we should adopt the same recipe. That is why we need the tableegh jamaat and other da`wah initiatives to work thoroughly on a land before expecting any deen progress. Join them. Else appreciate them and make du`a for them.
