It has been noted for several years that some people stress particularly during Sha’baan on fasting the 3 well lit days(Ayyaam Beed). That is they highlight people to fast 13th, 14th and 15th of the month. Some with negation towards fasting only the 15th.
These days are called well lit days(Ayyaam beed) because of their nights are well lit by the almost full moons or full moons. The light of the moon starts as from after Maghrib until the morning which bring them to being “more lit” or white than other nights.
First of all, know that fasting almost all the month of Sha’baan is recommended and sunnah-Bukhari. So each day of Shabaan hold the virtue of fasting in it except the two last days. And definitely the prophet SAW would not have omitted the 15th. Secondly the sunnah of fasting 13th, 14th and 15th is a sunnah applicable to all islamic months. Not only to Sha’baan. Note that Ramadhaan whole month is farz and also that it is not permissible to fast on 10th to 13th Zil Hijjah.
*But it is felt that this highlighting of fasting 13th, 14th and 15th especially during Shabaan has the strong smell if negating the fasting of 15th Shabaan alone. This is wrong as the sunnah of sunnah of fasting Shabaan is applicable except 2 last days. Furthermore the 15th day is topped up with a hadith of Ibn Majah. Although weak, but this top up to the virtue of the 15th day of Sha’baan. Together with the sunnah of fasting almost whole Shabaan, the 15th day is more virtuous by the hadith of Ibn Majah. No other day of Sha’baan hold the virtue the virtue of fasting in particular except the 15th. That is, there is no particular day as such of Shabaan that hold a hadith of its virtue. That is why different ulamas like Mufti Mahmood and others have taken consideration of the hadith of ibn majah. The hadith is a reliable hadith since Fatawa Ramali and fatawa Mahmoodiyah supports that it is laudable to fast only 15th Sha’baan.

The beloved prophet Swalallahou `Alaihi wasallam advised Abdallah Bin `Amr r.a.: ‘’Try to rather fast 3 days every month. As one hassanah is multiplied by 10, then it would be as if you have fasted all the days(of the month)…’’(Bukhari)
