Bismihi Ta`ala
*PROOF FROM QUR-AAN AND HADITHS OF CONTAGIOUS SICKNESSES:*
Pandemic or not, wherever your death has been decreed, you will taste death. The Qur-aan talks of a nation that fled an epidemic and left their native city fearing a plague death.
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ خَرَجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ وَهُمْ أُلُوفٌ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ اللَّهُ مُوتُوا ثُمَّ أَحْيَاهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ )‘’Have you not seen those who left their homes, thousands in number, to escape death? So Allah Ta`ala told them: ‘’Be dead’’. Then He raised them alive…(Baqarah:243)According to a tafseer of the ayah, Allah Ta`ala sent a very severe punishment to that nation that He killed them all. All died. Then Allah Ta`ala revived them again through their prophet`s du`as.(Qurtubi/Ibn Katheer/Jalaalein)تفسير الجلالين – المحلى والسيوطي – (){ أَلَمْ تَرَ } استفهام تعجيب وتشويق إلى استماع ما بعده أي ألم ينته علمك { إِلَى الذين خَرَجُواْ مِن ديارهم وَهُمْ أُلُوفٌ } أربعة أو ثمانية أو عشرة أو ثلاثون أو أربعون أو سبعون ألفاً { حَذَرَ الموت } مفعول له وهم قوم من بني إسرائيل وقع الطاعون ببلادهم ففروا { فَقَالَ لَهُمُ الله مُوتُواْ } فماتوا { ثُمَّ أحياهم } بعد ثمانية أيام أو أكثر بدعاء نبيهم حزقيل بكسر المهملة والقاف وسكون الزاي فعاشوا دهراً عليهم أثر الموت لا يلبسون ثوباً إلا عاد كالكفن واستمرت في أسباطهم { إِنَّ الله لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى الناس }
According to a tafseer, Samiriyi the person who misled Bani Israeel with the calf statue in the absence of Musa a.s., got the curse of a contagious sickness that he was condemned to stay away from people and continue saying: ‘’No touching please.’’تفسير الجلالين – المحلى والسيوطي – ()قَالَ فَاذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِي الْحَيَاةِ أَنْ تَقُولَ لَا مِسَاسَ وَإِنَّ لَكَ مَوْعِدًا لَنْ تُخْلَفَهُ وَانْظُرْ إِلَى إِلَهِكَ الَّذِي ظَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفًا لَنُحَرِّقَنَّهُ ثُمَّ لَنَنْسِفَنَّهُ فِي الْيَمِّ نَسْفًا (97){ قَالَ } له موسى { فاذهب } من بيننا { فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِى الحياوة } أي مدّة حياتك { أَن تَقُولَ } لمن رأيته { لاَ مِسَاسَ } أي لا تقربني ، فكان يهيم في البرية وإذا مس أحداً أو مسه أحد حُمَّاً جميعاً All this to tell you that there are sicknesses that are contagious that the Qur-aan talk about.From the ahadiths, we mention a few here: صحيح مسلم -)أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا عَدْوَى وَيُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا يُورِدُ مُمْرِضٌ عَلَى مُصِحٍّ
Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam said: ‘’The sickly contagious should not be brought close to the healthy.’’(Bukhari/Muslim) Reported in Muslim shareef that a leprous man was between the Thaqeef group of people(that came Madinah). So Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam sent to inform him that: ‘’We have already taken his oath of allegiance from far and hence he should step back.’’(Muslim)صحيح مسلم – ()حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهُشَيْمُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَكَانَ فِي وَفْدِ ثَقِيفٍ رَجُلٌ مَجْذُومٌ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّا قَدْ بَايَعْنَاكَ فَارْجِعْ
Allegiance is done normally hand with hand. But Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam showed us to keep distance from contagious diseases.صحيح البخاري – (باب الجذام وقال عفان حدثنا سليم بن حيان حدثنا سعيد بن ميناء قال سمعت أبا هريرة يقول قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هامة ولا صفر وفر من المجذوم كما تفر من الأسدHazrat Abu Hureirah r.a. said that Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam said: ‘’…run away from a leprous just like you run from a lion.’’(Bukhari)Normally, it is sunnah to visit a sick and make du`as for him. But here we are prescribed by medical sunnah to stay away from contagious diseases. Hence all healthy precautions prescribed by our health authorities is under this sunnah protocol of protecting oneself from contagious diseases. صحيح البخاري – ()وعن أبي النضر مولى عمر بن عبيد الله عن عامر بن سعد بن أبي وقاص عن أبيه أنه سمعه يسأل أسامة بن زيدماذا سمعت من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في الطاعون فقال أسامة قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الطاعون رجس أرسل على طائفة من بني إسرائيل أو على من كان قبلكم فإذا سمعتم به بأرض فلا تقدموا عليه وإذا وقع بأرض وأنتم بها فلا تخرجوا فرارا منه
Rasouloullah Swalallahou `Alaihi Wasallam said: ‘’Plague is a punishment that Allah Ta`ala sent on Bani Israeel or upon those before you. When you are informed that there is plague outbreat such and such places, then don`t travel to that area. And when there is outbreak in your area, then don`t travel out to escape from it.’’(Bukhari) The sunnah teach us to visit the sick. But in these contagious cases, we are instructed to take medical precautions of distancing and segregating. Clear that there are 2 types of sicknesses. One contagious. One non contagious.
